IIT Bhubaneswar Develops Digital Power Substation
IIT Bhubaneswar has inaugurated an advanced digital substation at its 33/11 kV campus facility, featuring a Centralised Protection and Monitoring (CPM) system that gives real-time monitoring and protection across the institute's entire electrical distribution network. Led by Prof. S.R. Samantaray of the Department of Electrical Engineering under a Central Power Research Institute demonstration initiative, it's one of India's few indigenously developed digital substation frameworks, using intelligent merging units to replace conventional physical protection devices. It was inaugurated by Odisha's Energy Department Additional Chief Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev alongside Director Shreepad Karmalkar, and lays groundwork for a future Distributed Energy Resource Management System to boost grid intelligence and reliability.
